National team started to prepare for Manchester 2010

On August 6, the Latvian Lacrosse Federation completed a four day tryout camp for local nationals for Team Latvia. The camp was an intensive one, consisting of three a day sessions and a concluding game.  Of 50 candidates attending the camp, 29 were selected for the 2010 Training Team.  They will be joined by 4 other candidates, who were unable to attend for health and personal reasons. Of the 33 candidates, 18 are veterans of previous National Teams, and 15 are newcomers.  They represent all four of Latvia’s active lacrosse clubs.

The 50 camp attendees are a record for Latvian National Team tryouts. The abundant number of attendees, in the midst of Latvia’s severe economic downturn, was made possible by Direktoru Skola (Director’s School), which sponsored the entire cost of the camp. Direktoru Skola is an organization that provides advanced training to Latvia’s upper level corporate managers.

It is hoped that the Training Team will be filled out by up to four non-passport holding players of Latvian descent, as allowed by FIL. Several have already been identified, and the search continues for additional players.
